Flag

The current flag was adopted after the apartheid in 1994. The Y shape defines a united nation. Red represents the blood, blue represents the blue sky, the green represents the country of South Africa, black represents the coloured South Africans and the white represents the white South Africans. Yellow represents the country's natural resources.

The South African Rand is derived from a gold vein in Witwatersrand. It was introduced in 1961. It replaces the South African pound. Depicted on the banknote are rhinos.




Highlights

In 1652 Jan van Riebeeck built the fortress Good Hope on the location of present day Cape Town. the city has approximately 3.5 million inhabitants. The location of Cape Town is magnificent. A semicircular bay at the foot of the 1086 meter high table mountain. Numerous excursions are possible. To Stellenbosch for wine tasting, penguins at Boulders, Cape of good hope with the sign that marks the most southwestern point of Africa, Table mountain or Robben island.

The orange river rages through an extensive canyon at Augrabies. A spectacular rush along 18 km with a total descent of 240 meters. The highest waterfall is 65 meters. You will see countless lizards and a kind of marmot (Dassies).



The Kgalagadi (thirsty land) Transfrontier Park is located on narrow strip of land between Namibia and Botswana. The park is located inn the south of the oldest desert, the Kalahari. The park entrance is called Two rivers because of the two river beds, Auob and Nossob. They fell dry long ago. You can make safaris day and night and see animals such as wildebeest, springboks, cheetahs, giant owls, gemsboks, jackals and ostriches.

The drive from Cape Town to Springbok in the north of the country is magnificent. Before you cross the pass to the Citrusdal you just have to stop for a moment and look back over the vast plain.
